Counseling
Kim D. Kemske, Psy.D., L.P.
Manresa
is making space on campus available on a regular basis to a visiting
Psychologist from Archway Associates. By using space provided
by churches or religious houses, Archway Associates is able to
make psychological help available locally, conveniently and less
expensively. Dr. Kemske is a Nationally Certified Psychologist
(NCP) who specializes in caring and compassionate work with individuals
who have concerns with anxiety, depression, panic disorder, trauma,
grief and loss, mid-life concerns and women's matters. She is
certified as a Trauma and Loss Consultant and works with adolescents
and adults of any age. Dr. Kemske sees clients in individual,
couple and family sessions and has extensive experience with marital
therapy and premarital work. She approaches her counseling with
a respect for the faith life of those she counsels while incorporating
cognitive-behavioral, holistic, existential, art therapy, and
relationship therapy approaches and personal spirituality to assist
clients in identifying and realizing what they have in mind to
accomplish. Dr. Kemske is a fully licensed psychologist who earned
her Doctoral Degree in Clinical and Humanistic Psychology from
the Center for Humanistic Studies in 2006, and her Master's Degree
in 1996, and has developed expertise through completion of comprehensive
research for her doctoral dissertation on The Childless Woman's
Experience of Creating Meaning in Mid-life. She serves as the
current president of Archway Associates. For times and other information
please contact Dr. Kemske directly by phone (248.615.1263) or
email (kimk@a-atherapy.com).
Days
or Evenings of Prayer and Recollection
Besides
the days referred to above, Manresa offers days of recollection
for individual parishes or other groups. Days, evenings or mornings
of prayer, rest, reflection, and recollection can be arranged
to fit the needs of the individual group. These may be facilitated
by your staff or ours. See

Spiritual
Direction
Members of the Manresa
staff and approved spiritual directors, their schedules permitting,
offer regular spiritual direction to those who seek such direction.
We can recommend to those who are interested qualified spiritual
directors in the area; at time one can meet with these directors
at Manresa (certain days are excluded).
What is Spiritual Direction?

The
Manresa Bookstore
One of the hidden spiritual
treasures of the Detroit area, well known to Manresa's retreatants
and other visitors but totally unknown to most others, is the
bookstore at the retreat house. When the new administration wing
was built in 1984 shelving was included in the entrance lobby
to provide space for about 200 titles to be attractively presented,
face outward. The content of the shelves now changes regularly;
each year about 60 titles are dropped and 60 new ones are added,
so that it's always worth a look when you return even after just
a few weeks. Many recent titles may be found here before they
become available elsewhere in the area. Fr. Fennessy is the manager
and can special order for you many books that are not currently
on our shelves, or may be able to help you locate them elsewhere.
Our titles are mostly religious, focusing on spirituality and
prayer. A small number of CD's of religious music, vocal or instrumental,
are also stocked, as well as some note cards and Manresa memorabilia
in the form of coffee mugs, sweatshirts, T-shirts and caps. The
store is open to the general public whenever our doors are unlockedusually
Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 4 PMand to those visiting us
for weekend or evening programs. Payment for purchases can be
made to the secretary when the front office is open. But the store
is run on the honor system and a deposit box is available for
cash, checks or credit card slips. State sales tax is already
included on the price tags. Here
are a few suggestions from Fr. Fennessy for Christmas gifts from
the store.
Weekday
Mass
You are invited to join
the Manresa community each weekday, Monday to Friday, for morning
8 o'clock Mass in our main chapel. After the Mass on First Fridays
of the Month, join us for breakfast in the Manresa dining room.

Hosting
Other Groups
Our
facilities are available
for use by other groups with compatible aims. Many associations
have their regular meetings here or run their own programs
in our setting. Though we are a Roman Catholic organization,
at least 50 groups of other denominations have recently found
Manresa a convenient and sympathetic place to gather. For
