Members of the Manresa staff and approved spiritual directors, their schedules permitting, offer regular spiritual direction to those who seek such direction. We can recommend to those who are interested qualified spiritual directors in the area. Contact Ann Dillon for further information. At times one can meet with these directors at Manresa
The Manresa Bookstore
One of the hidden spiritual treasures of the Detroit area, well-known to Manresa's retreatants and other visitors but not to most others, is the bookstore at the retreat house. When the new administration wing was built in 1984 shelving was included in the entrance lobby to provide space for about 200 titles to be attractively presented, face outward. The content of the shelves changes regularly; each year about 60 titles are dropped and 60 new ones are added, so that it's always worth a look when you return even after just a few weeks. Many recent titles may be found here before they become available elsewhere in the area. Fr. Fennessy is the manager and can special order for you many books that are not currently on our shelves, or he may be able to help you locate them elsewhere. Our titles are mostly religious, focusing on spirituality and prayer. A small number of CD's of religious music, vocal or instrumental, are also stocked, as well as some note cards and Manresa memorabilia in the form of coffee mugs, sweatshirts, T-shirts and caps. The store is open to the general public whenever our doors are unlockedusually Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 4 PMand to those visiting us for weekend or evening programs. Payment for purchases can be made to the secretary when the front office is open. But the store is run on the honor system and a deposit box is available for cash, checks or credit card slips. State sales tax is already included on the price tags.
The La Storta Library consists of almost 4,000 titles of a professional theological nature. They are listed on an index of Titles and an index of Authors which are searchable. They may be borrowed by the general public for a period of three weeks, with no more than four titles being withdrawn at any one time.
The library operates on the Roman system. Books may be requested on line. Requests should by submitted by Tuesday and they may be picked up after 12 noon Thursday at the front office of Manresa during normal office hours [8 to 4, Monday to Friday].
Manresas in-house publications consist of Manresa Memos, published
six times a year, announcing upcoming programs, events and other opportunities;
Manresa Matters, our biannual newsletter, focusing on spiritual topics
and recent key activities; its online E-supplement containing "bonus
material" that expands some of the articles in Matters; and the Yearbook,
recording annual highlights and providing an overview of our Mission,
ministries, retreats and other offerings along with information about
our staff, Board and calendar for the following year.
