Praying with Art: James Tissot’s Life of Christ – Part II
Jan. 28 | Feb. 11, 25 | Mar. 11, 25 | Apr. 8, 22
During our second semester, we will continue to look at and pray about the life of Christ as painted by the French artist James Tissot (1836-1902). After a powerful religious experience in 1885 Tissot abandoned the lifestyle and art genres that had until that moment made him respectively notorious and famous. He dedicated the rest of his life to researching and reproducing Christ’s life as it would have looked in the Holy Land of His day. We will begin with the closing events of Jesus’ public life and then look at His passion and death during Lent and His resurrection during Easter Week. You may follow the story in The Life of Jesus by Andrea Tornielli but this is not a required text.
Facilitator: Fr. Peter Fennessy, SJ is a long-time member of Manresa’s ministerial team.
