Four women who shaped Christianity

Four women—Hildegard of Bingen, Catherine of Siena, Teresa of Ávila, and Thérèse of Lisieux—have been honored with the title “Doctor of the Church.” But what does that title mean and what message do these women have for us today?

During our time together, we will look at the lives and teachings of these women in order to come to a deeper understanding of the impact they have had on our Church, the world and our own lives. They may not have planned to be thought of as theologians, but reflecting on their lives, teaching and writings will have a profound effect on how we choose to live our faith.

Retreat Directors: Fr. Fran Daly, SJ was ordained in 1972 and has extensive experience teaching Ignatian spirituality and leading the Spiritual Exercises. From 2014 to 2021 he was Executive Director of Manresa Jesuit Retreat House, where he continues to facilitate retreats and days of reflection. Sr. Kathie Budesky, IHM graduated from Mundelein College with a Master’s Degree in Religious Studies and Spirituality and is currently the Director of Visitation North Spirituality Center in Bloomfield Hills, where she is also a presenter and facilitator.
