Antun Kanilic was born in Poega, Croatia in 1699 and died there in 1777. He joined the Jesuits and was educated in Graz, Austria and Trnava, Slovakia and worked as a missionary in Croatia. When the Jesuits were suppressed he joined the diocese of Zagreb, and continued his work, particularly trying through his publications to educate people in literacy and in the basics of the faith. He is also known for his religious poems. His book, St. Rosalind, is seen in the background of the stamp.
