Blessed Ignacio de Azevedo, born in Portugal in 1527, having been named the Jesuit superior of Brazil, returned to Portugal to recruit volunteers for the mission. On the way back to Brazil they were intercepted by French Huguenot pirates, who killed him and his 39 Jesuit companions. They were all beatified in 1854.
